Essential Things to Do Before the San Diego Summer Ends

By Valeria Hernandez

As summer in San Diego (which lasts through September) comes to an end, it’s time to check off a few fun-filled activities from your bucket list! The options of things to do in San Diego are endless, so we’ve compiled our recommendations of where to go, what to see and what to experience in America’s Finest City this summer season!

Here’s a roundup of things you must do before summer is over:

  1. Get Outside

San Diego is known for its stunning beaches, close proximity to the mountains and its large number of attractions for people of all ages! Spend a day enjoying all the outdoor activities that this city has to offer and get outside. Plan a picnic with your friends, have a boat day on the bay or catch an outdoor movie at the many outdoor movie screenings happening throughout San Diego.

  1. Catch a San Diego Sunset

Home to some of the most beautiful sunsets, San Diego has plenty of spots to watch the sun fade out into the night sky! Grab a few blankets, snacks and good company and head to Sunset Cliffs to watch the sunset illuminate the ocean. If you’re looking to sip on tasty cocktails or snack on a few appetizers while enjoying the view, there are a number of eateries in Pacific Beach and Point Loma that are the ideal setting!

  1. Be a Tourist in Your Own City

San Diego’s charming neighborhoods can make you feel like a tourist in your own town. Little Italy’s quaint and historic 48-square block urban neighborhood is the perfect place to go this summer. With its lively piazzas, top restaurants, and chic boutiques, this San Diego community is a must-visit! We also love Liberty Station, which offers locals new things to discover each visit. From the popular Liberty Public Market to the ARTS DISTRICT, this signature neighborhood should be on your bucket list.

  1. Go to a Baseball Game

What is a San Diego summer without taking in a Padres Game? Even if you aren’t a sports fan, you have to catch a game at least once! Recognized as one of the top ballparks in the country, Petco Park offers spectacular Downtown skyline views, delicious food from local restaurants and beer on tap from San Diego breweries. Go Padres!

  1. Spend Quality Time with Friends and Family

These days it can be hard to stay in the present moment with technology at our fingertips. Instead of spending countless hours on your phone, make a concentrated effort to have some face-to-face time with loved ones. Step away from the computer, leave your messages unread and schedule some much needed time with friends and family. You can plan a barbeque in your backyard, a bonfire at the beach or have a few of your favorite people over for a wine night – your options are endless in San Diego!
