Corporate Social Responsibility: Warming Hearts and Bringing the Heat to PR Campaigns

By: Jaclyn Acree

The Olives are at it again! At what you may ask? Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaigns, of course!

If you don’t know what CSR is, let me give you a little refresher course. CSR is something that Olive PR Solutions specializes in and it is when we align businesses with non-profits to create a give back opportunities. We work with both for-profit and non-profit companies in creating fun and creative events that will resonate with employees, the media and the surrounding community.

Being able to work on CSR campaigns truly warms my heart because a lot of the time non-profits can’t afford public relations, so having the ability to align them with our clients not only helps them get more media attention around their mission, but it also results in some kind of donation. We truly get to make a difference with the work we do.

The benefits to CSR campaigns are many. It helps with employee retention, employee morale, community awareness, recruiting and so much more!

A perfect example would be the recent completion of the 7th annual Takeda California dog walk benefitting Susan G. Komen San Diego. For every lap completed by a person, dog or stuffed animal dog, Takeda California donated $10 to Susan G. Komen San Diego. The money raised will support women at risk or dealing with breast cancer by providing free services such as education, outreach, free mammograms, financial and food assistance, transportation and more.

Employees who didn’t have a dog were encouraged to bring stuffed animal dogs that then were donated to Rady Children’s Hospital. This year, Takeda California also partnered with Labradors and Friends Dog Rescue Group, an animal rescue group whose mission is to help save the lives of homeless Labradors, Labrador-mixes, and Labrador “friends” from kill-shelters in California and across the southwest. Labradors and Friends brought dogs that are available for adoption that employees were able to walk with.

This year was incredibly successful with over 180 human participants and over 60 dog participants! Takeda California ended up donating over $11,800 to Susan G. Komen San Diego, which will go a long way in helping breast cancer patients here in San Diego.
