Quality vs. Quantity of Social Media Content

By Cree Jones

Content marketing and social media marketing are powerful tools that can make a huge difference for brands. But the question stands, how much content should a brand be producing and posting each week? While we wish there was a magical, cookie-cutter response to this question, there really isn’t. It all depends on your company’s goals, the type of content that you are creating, and what channels you are posting to. Also, it’s important to keep in mind that more does not always mean better. Just think about what you’d like to see in your personal feed. Would you rather see 10 mediocre posts that you aren’t excited about or 2-3 beautifully crafted and relevant pieces of content that you can engage with? The answer is pretty clear to us.

When analyzing the content that you are producing, take into consideration what is working, what isn’t working, and why. You’ll want to do this for each social media channel and determine what type of content your audience is most engaged with. For example, if you notice that a certain type of post works really well on Facebook but performs poorly on Twitter, use that insight when you start crafting your next content calendar. Tailoring your social media content to each channel rather than blasting the same content to all channels will make a large impact on your overall performance and results.

Next, you should take a look at your social media analytics to see when your followers are present and the most engaged. Your content should be scheduled in accordance with when your audience will be online and likely to interact with your brand.

Lastly, it is crucial that your social media content is consistent with your branding, messaging, and tone of voice. The post frequency and cadence should also be consistent. For example, you don’t want to post every single day for two weeks and then stop posting for 3 days. When you do finally post after the break, performance will suffer. So once you determine your posting schedule and frequency, stick to it!
