ASSIGNMENT

Created in September 2014, The Redwood City Improvement Association (RCIA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community benefit district run by a board of property owners, residents, community members and businesses. 

 

When the Redwood City Improvement Association connected with Olive, we were tasked with the challenge to elevate the visibility of this premier neighborhood through media relations and social media and to drive local, national and international visitors to Redwood City, by painting the community as a top destination for arts, culture, entertainment, recreation and more.

STRATEGY

Olive has had tremendous success in promoting communities throughout California, and through our experience, we have been able to create a streamlined process to tell each community’s story. For RCIA, our focus was to position Redwood City as a vibrant destination for residents and visitors, while showcasing RCIA’s leadership in arts initiatives and downtown beautification.

A key part of our strategic plan was aligning media relations and social media to spotlight community events, arts programs, capital improvements, new businesses, and placemaking efforts. Additional efforts were dedicated to supporting with several events and activities including Music on the Square, Oktoberfest, the Merrie Olde Christmas Carolers, and more.

IMPACT

Since partnering with the Redwood City Improvement Association, we’ve secured over 1,500 media hits, earning widespread coverage in top national and regional outlets such as the San Francisco Chronicle, Mercury News, SF Gate, San Mateo Daily Journal and all major Bay Area TV affiliates. This exposure has highlighted Downtown Redwood City and its vibrant business community as a leading Bay Area destination.

 

By aligning our social media strategy with media relations, we’ve also built a highly engaged online audience—now over 25,000 Facebook and 10,000 Instagram followers—further elevating the city’s profile and appeal.
