ASSIGNMENT

The Emilio Nares Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps families navigate their child’s journey with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, originally connected with Olive in 2016 to help promote one of their largest fundraising events, Harvest for Hope. The goal was to introduce the event to the community and spread awareness about the mission of the Emilio Nares Foundation in order to increase donations. Throughout the years, Olive has strategized the best way to use media relations to create more visibility for the foundation’s impactful work, helping boost event attendance and increase overall support for the foundation’s cause.

STRATEGY

Our PR strategy has been consistent and targeted outreach. For Emilio Nares Foundation’s Harvest for Hope fundraiser, we targeted regional media including print, online, radio and television and crafted comprehensive media lists of different neighborhoods in the area. In addition, we conducted media outreach for long leads and short leads as well as distributed calendar listings for the event. We specifically targeted journalists focused on nonprofit work, and storytellers looking for an inspiring story in the local community.

Over the past seven years of helping support the Harvest for Hope fundraiser, one thing remained consistent. Each year, we continued to illuminate the mission and the heart of this foundation. Despite one of the challenges being how to make this fundraising event stand out amongst the other nonprofit events and galas, we were able to elevate the event by focusing on the founder’s inspiring story and the foundation’s unique mission. This strategic PR approach ensured that both the media and the public understood the vital role the foundation plays in the community, helping to drive attendance, increase donations and build long-term support for the foundation’s mission. 

IMPACT

Year after year, Olive consistently surpassed expectations, delivering PR campaigns that effectively built awareness for the Emilio Nares Foundation and elevated the visibility of the Harvest for Hope fundraiser. The campaign’s success is reflected in over 300 media hits throughout the years, including outlets such as Modern Luxury, Presidio Sentinel, Point Loma OB Monthly, San Diego Union-Tribune, Thrillist, San Diego Magazine, Ranch & Coast, Rancho Sante Fe Review, Encinitas Advocate, Del Mar Times and many others. Harvest for Hope has also garnered significant coverage on San Diego’s major TV news affiliates including CBS 8, NBC 7, FOX 5 and KUSI, as well as features on Spanish-language networks such as Univision and KSDY 50, further expanding the event’s reach to the Latine community of San Diego.
